This Law enters into force on the ninetieth day from the date of its official publication.
Abstract

This Law regulates promotion of breastfeeding, infant food, production, labelling, trade, vending, distribution, advertising of infant food and dissemination of information thereon. The scope of this Law is to ensure the healthy and safe nutrition of infants and young children, promotion of breastfeeding, regulation of circulation of infant food and related products. It establishes powers and competence of the Government and authorized bodies in the aforesaid field. Every child has the right to: (a) breastfeeding as an optimal, non-alternative, safe, appropriate (adequate) nutrition; (b) abstain from breastfeeding in case of medical contraindications, the list of which is approved by the authorized state body in the field of healthcare; and (c) due to physiological requirements, to receive additional (extra) food from 6 months of age. This Law consists of X Chapters divided into 22 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II regards breastfeeding, infant food and related products, and state supervision over circulation thereof. Chapter III regards state regulation and enforcement of the legislation in the field of breastfeeding and infant food. Chapter IV regards promotion of breastfeeding. Chapter V regards regulation of trade of infant food and related products. Chapter VI regards labelling of infant food and related products. Chapter VII establishes responsibility of organizations and medical staff in the field of encouraging breastfeeding. Chapter VIII regards access to information on breastfeeding. Chapter IX establishes liability for violation of the provisions of this Law. Chapter X lays down final provisions.
