Abstract This Law, consisting of 6 Chapters, provides for shrimp sustainable development within Rio Grande do Norte State. This Law, called "Governor Cortez Pereira", formulated, coordinated and executed from the general rules established by the National Development Policy of Shrimp aims to promote: a sustainable exploitation of natural resources of Rio Grande do Norte by shrimp farming, as an important source of food, employment and income, ensuring the optimization of economic benefits, in harmony with conservation of the environment and surrounding biodiversity; planning, promotion and regulation of marine shrimp farming activity; ecologically sustainable use of ecosystems coastal zones, estuaries, reservoirs, brackish, surface and underground waters; the socioeconomic development of the State, including technological and professional development of technicians and workers involved in shrimp farming activity; support for innovation research aimed at improving their ecological interaction, technical and economic efficiency.
