This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
Abstract

This Law, consisting of 10 articles and 1 Annex, creates the State Secretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture (SEPAQ) within the State of Maranhão. SEPAQ is responsible for compliance with the principles and guidelines established by State Law No. 8.089 of 25 February 2004, which provides for the State Fisheries Policy, its objectives and guidelines and regulates fishing and aquaculture activities, with a view to promoting the sustainable development of the sector; provide institutional and technical support to the actions and activities related to it. Its objectives are: promote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, the organization, regulation, incentive, monitoring and control of their activities, including the exploitation of these resources, including capture, cultivation, conservation, processing, transportation, storage and marketing of the fisheries products; integrate public and private bodies that work in the ​​areas of fisheries and aquaculture in the State; promote the implementation of the principles and guidelines established by State Law No. 8.089; integrate and guide the state's fisheries sector, together with the related representatives; promote actions and activities concerning the planning and coordination of the fishing and aquaculture sectors, articulating, in each case, with the public and private bodies and entities involved with it; implement, monitor, control and evaluate actions and activities relating to the services, procedures, plans, programmes and projects of the fisheries and aquaculture sector as well as public and civil works concerned through competent governmental bodies; plan, execute and supervise infrastructure investments to improve productive chains and their storage, disposal and inspection; maintain links with public, private, federal, state and municipal entities, and with national and international organizations of the fishing and aquaculture areas.
