Abstract This Law approves the Policy on Water Resources of the State of Santa Catarina, as an instrument of rational use of water compatible with the preservation of the environment, shall be governed by the following principles: water resources management must be integrated, decentralized and participatory; watersheds are basic units for planning the use and conservation of water resources; water should be recognized as a public good of economic value, the use of which must be charged in order to generate resources to finance the implementation of interventions necessary for the use and protection of water resources; the use of water for the purposes of transportation and disposal of urban and industrial sewage must also be collected; the granting of water rights is considered an essential instrument for its management.
