Abstract This Law regulates state policy in the sphere of collection, conservation, research and rational management of genetic resources of cultivated plants with a view of agricultural development and ensuring food, ecological and biological safety, conservation of selection achievements and national historical and cultural heritage. Objects of genetic resources shall be: (a) wild growing and weed-grow plant varieties affined to cultivated plants; (b) ancient local plant varieties used in traditional agroecosystems; (c) selection varieties; (d) selection lines, sources and donor of precious properties; and (e) genetic material – hybrids and plant varieties created with the use of biotechnology. This Law outlines state policy in the aforesaid sphere, lays down basic principles of activity and determines state management and supervision, delimiting plenary powers of various governmental bodies and agencies.
