Abstract This Law establishes measures for the proper disposal, collection and treatment of tobacco product residues and for raising awareness and informing the population with a view to reducing the impact of these residues on the environment. For the purposes of this law, cigarette butts, cigars or other cigarettes containing tobacco products are treated as municipal solid waste. The disposal in public space of these residues containing tobacco products is prohibited. The Government, within 180 days from the date of entry into force of this Law, creates an incentive system, within the scope of the Environmental Fund, for establishments to fulfill of the obligation to make ashtrays and related equipment available for the disposal of the above mentioned tobacco product waste.
