Abstract

This Law establishes the State Policy on Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming and Agrarian Reform (PEATER) and the State Programme for Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming and Agrarian Reform in the State of Piauí (PROATERPI). PEATER's objectives are: promote sustainable agroecological rural development; support economic initiatives promoting regional and local potentiality; increase the production, quality and productivity of agricultural and non-agricultural activities, including agro-extractivism, traditional riverside communities, aqua-extractivism, forestry, fishing and artisanal communities; promote improvements in the quality of life of its beneficiaries; develop actions aimed at the management and conservation of natural resources, agroecosystems and biodiversity; implement actions, research and guidance for the preservation of micro-basins on rural properties of the Parnaíba River basin; implement actions, research and guidelines to control and combat erosion and desertification; build sustainable production systems; improve cooperatives and technical assistance and rural extension system; contribute to the expansion of rural, urban and peri-urban agriculture; and promote the inclusion of agroecological knowledge respecting the traditional knowledge.
