Abstract This Law, consisting of 69 articles divided into 10 Chapters, creates the State System of Nature Conservation Unit (SEUC) within the State of Alagoas. SEUC has the following main objectives: to contribute to the maintenance of biological diversity and genetic resources in State lands and waters; to protect endemic, rare and endangered species; to protect native species of great economic, social or cultural value; to contribute to the preservation and restoration of the diversity of natural ecosystems state; to promote nature conservation practices in the state sustainable development; to protect natural landscapes and heritage; to protect, at the state level, the relevant characteristics of geological, geomorphological, speleological, archaeological, paleontological and, when appropriate, historical and cultural; to protect and restore water and soil resources; to recover or restore degraded ecosystems; to promote scientific research, studies and environmental monitoring; to enhance economic and social biological diversity; to protect natural resources necessary for the subsistence of traditional communities, respecting and valuing their knowledge and culture and promoting the social and economic sectors; to prioritize ecosystems that are most threatened of degradation or extinction.
