Abstract This Law, consisting of 26 articles divided into five Chapters and four Annexes, provides for the State Agricultural and Livestock Protection Agency of Bahia (ADAB) under the Secretariat of Agriculture, Irrigation and Agrarian Reform. The Agency aims to perform the following activities: promote and implement animal and plant health protection, control and inspect products of agricultural and livestock origin; designate and implement health promotion and protection programmes animal as well as plant health education; supervise the transit, trade and processing of agricultural products, by-products and derivatives in the State territory; survey, map and monitor the zoo-phytosanitary occurrences in the territory, aiming at preventing and controlling plant and animal pests and diseases; carry out epidemiological surveillance activities; act in the prophylaxis and control of pests and diseases of animals and vegetables and in the inspection of products of agricultural origin; propose norms to ensure animals and plants health and the sanitary quality of agricultural products; modernize, coordinate and execute the activities of the State Agricultural Defense System; register products, markets, pesticide and related products, as well as zoo-phytosanitary service providers; apply fines and other sanctions to illegal activity; etc. Full text Portuguese Website www.legislabahia.ba.gov.br
