Abstract This Law establishes general legal and organizational requirements for veterinary and sanitary safety of foodstuffs of animal origin, ensuring veterinary and epizootic well-being, livestock quarantine, and establishes the modalities of carrying out state veterinary control. The main tasks of the authorized veterinary institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan are protection of the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan from import from the territory of other states or from quarantine zones of causative agents of quarantine animal diseases (including birds, furs, bees, fish, etc.).The Act consists of 8 Sections divided into 45 articles: (1) general provisions; (2) state regulation in the sphere of veterinary; (3) state veterinary supervision; (4) financing of veterinary service and state veterinary supervision; (5) veterinary and sanitary requirements for prevention of animal diseases and ensuring safety of animal products; (6) ensuring protection against extremely dangerous animal diseases common to human beings and against food poisoning; (7) scientific substantiation of veterinary; and (8) conclusive provisions. State policy in the sphere of veterinary shall be carried out by the authorized veterinary body subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection. State veterinary supervision comprises a set of organizational and legal arrangements aimed at enforcement of veterinary legislation. State veterinary control at markets and other places of trade of livestock, food and raw materials of animal origin shall be mandatory.
