Abstract

This Law, consisting of 18 articles divided into six Chapters, regulates the Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes. It aims to help infants to have safe and adequate nutrition, protecting them from the risks associated with not being breastfed or from early weaning, through the protection and promotion of breastfeeding and ensuring the appropriate use of food substitutes either or complementary to breastfeeding, when needed. This objective can only be achieved on the basis of the provision of adequate information and through the commercialization, distribution and proper use of this food. In particular, it applies to the marketing, information and quality control of products intended for the purpose of feeding infants and young children, manufactured in the country or imported, including: a) Preparations for infants; b) Complementary food; c) Dairy products and other drinks for infants and young children; d) Baby bottles, teats and pacifiers; e) Any other products that the Ministry in charge of the health sector legally determines.
