Abstract This Law regulates cultivation of walnut, harvesting, collection, processing and trade of nuts. The authorized state institution shall carry out registration and quality assessment of walnut trees. Production and trade of walnut planting material shall be carried out in accordance with legislation currently in force. New walnut plantations shall be planted in the cleared areas in accordance with authorization issued by the governmental bodies. New plantation area shall not be less than the cleared area. Extension of walnut plantation areas shall be carried out by planting: (a) orchards; (b) rows of trees; (c) protection belts; (d) forest plantations; (e) erosion-preventive and anti-avalanche plantations; and (f) single trees. The Act consists of eight Sections divided into 21 articles: (1) general provisions; (2) state support; (3) new plantations, seeds and planting material; (4) public ownership of walnut plantations, collection and processing of walnut; (5) subsidies and incentives; (6) clearing of walnut plantations; (7) protective measures and liability; and (8) conclusive provisions. Walnut plantations located on public land shall be public property. Collection of walnuts shall be carried out in the established periods by specialized personnel.
