Abstract

This Law provides for the ratification and the adoption of the Agreement for the Promotion of International Conservation and Management Measures by Fishing Vessels on the High Seas, adopted at the 27th session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nations (FAO) in November 1993 and responds to the purposes of compliance with the Republic's commitment to the European Union to accede, by the end of 2002, to this Agreement. The Law identifies the competent authority for the implementation of the provisions of this Law as the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment or a person duly authorised for this purpose by the Minister and empowers the Council of Minister to issue Regulations to determine anything that is needed or can be determined for the better implementation of the provisions of this Law. The text of the Agreement in the English original is set out in Part I of the attachment and its Greek translation is set out in Part II.
