Abstract This Law, consisting of 9 Chapters, divided into 114 articles, establishes the State Policy and System on Environment within the State of Sergipe. The objectives of this Policy are: to preserve, protect, improve and rehabilitate an adequate level of environmental quality for living, aiming at guaranteeing the socio-economic development conditions and the dignity of human beings, through the following activities: governmental actions maintaining the ecological balance, considering the environment as a public natural heritage to be protected; rational use of natural resources; planning and control over the use of natural resources; protection of ecosystems through the preservation of representative areas; control and zoning for the potentially polluting, harmful and dangerous activities; incentives to research and new technologies oriented to a rational use and protection of natural resources, etc. Full text Portuguese Website www.al.se.gov.br
