This Law establishes sanitary measures to combat animal diseases, with a view to their control and eradication. They will be applied primarily to transmittable and parasitic diseases with a potential great diffusion power, whose socio-economic and public health consequences may be serious and which interfere in internal and international trade in live animals, their products and by-products. The official veterinarian will have free access to properties and establishments where animals and animal products exist, in order to inspect and immediately determine the adoption of the following animal health protection measures and others that are considered necessary, isolated or cumulatively, when there is an imminent risk occurrence of diseases or animal or suspected of having been affected. The Law is divided as follows: Preliminary provisions (Chap. I); Definitions (Chap. II); Measures to Combat Animal Diseases (Chap. III); Animal Transit Measures (Chap. IV); Measures for exhibitions, fairs, auctions and other Gathering of Animals (Chap. V); Inspection Measures for Trade in Veterinary Products (Chap. VI); Accreditation of Veterinarians (Chap. VII); Offences and penalties (Chap. VIII); General and Transitional Provisions (Chap. IX).
