Abstract

This Law establishes the mandatory Replacement and Collection of Plastic Shopping Bags at Commercial Establishments within the State of Rio de Janeiro. It aims at making them available to the Recycling and Protection Cycle of the Fluminense Environment and adds article 98-A to Law No. 3.467/2000. Above mentioned reusable/returnable plastic shoppers and/or bags, must have a resistance of at least 4, 7 or 10 kilos, more than 51% material from renewable sources, and should be made in the green colours (for recyclable waste) and gray (for other purposes), in order to assist the consumer in the separation of waste and to facilitate identification for the respective garbage collection. The State may establish agreements and partnerships with the Federal Government, City Halls and Private Companies to achieve the objectives set forth in this Law with the purpose of implementing selective collection.
