Abstract This Law, consisting of 89 articles divided into seven Chapters and one Annex, establishes the Forestry Policy of the State of Espírito Santo. The Policy has the principles of promoting and increasing the preservation, conservation, recovery, expansion and rational use of State forests, within a context of sustainable development, aiming to meet the economic, social, environmental and cultural needs of current and future generations. The Forestry Policy objectives are: Promote the compatibility of related activities with Land, Agricultural, Environment, Urban and Regional Development Policies; Integrate the forestry actions and activities performed by various federal, state and municipal entities; Establish guidelines and rules related to land use and occupation for forestry activities; Promote and encourage soil conservation, protection and recovery and integrated pest and disease management, as well as conservation, protection and recovery and appropriate use of water resources; Carry out research and the best technology in the forestry area; Create, implement and manage the Conservation Units; Preserve, recover and expand the Environmental Preservation Forests, comprising the permanent preservation areas, the ecosystems threatened with extinction and the primary natural forests; Establish guidelines, criteria and standards for the use and management of forests in the stages of regeneration; Establish guidelines and standards for the reforestation and agroforestry systems; Encourage the protection, conservation, recovery and use of protected areas; Stimulate the creation of protective borders and forest corridors at different stages; Evaluate and control the projects potentially causing environmental impact; Elaborate and implement plans and programmes for forest and agroforestry development, ensuring the participation of civil society in all aspects of the process; Create mechanisms to preserve and recover forestry resources; Promote environmental education; Promote the development of industrial and artisanal activities of forest-based products; Support forest extension programme to experiment multiple-use forest systems; Encourage ecotourism activities; Ensure the participation of civil society in the planning, decision-making and implementation of forest policy, etc. Full text Portuguese Website www3.al.es.gov.br References - Legislation Implemented by Decree No. 4.124-N approving the Regulation on the Forest Policy of the State of Espírito Santo.
