Abstract This Law, consisting of 45 articles divided into five Chapters, regulates the protection and management of animals in the Macao Special Administrative Region. It establishes that the treatment of animals (vertebrate animals other than humans) through cruel or violent means or through torture, which inflicts pain and suffering on them, is prohibited. The Law is divided as follows: General provisions (Chap. I); General protection of animals (Chap. II); Management of animals (Chap. III); Sanctioning regime (Chap.
