Abstract This Law, consisting of 25 articles, establishes the State Policy on Solid Waste, such as: any substance in solid and semi-solid form, resulting from industrial and domestic activity, hospital, commercial, agricultural, services and other community activities, potentially causing pollution or environmental contamination. It specifies principles, procedures and criteria related to the generation, handling, storage, collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of solid waste in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It aims at controlling environmental pollution, contamination in view of minimizing its environmental impacts.
