Firstly, the definitions given by articles 2 and 3 are modified. For the purpose of these new provisions, “food” or “foodstuff” shall mean any substance or product, whether processed, partially processed or unprocessed, intended to be, or reasonably intended to be, designated for human consumption. It shall include drink, chewing gum and any substance, including water, intentionally incorporated into the food during its manufacture, preparation or treatment. Furthermore, the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority set up under Government Ordinance No. 42 of 2004 shall be the competent authority in the veterinary and food safety fields.
