Abstract This Law, consisting of 5 Chapters, establishes Environmental Protection measures to be applied within the State of Alagoas. It specifies authorized use of natural resources within the State, in order to protect environmental sector and to satisfy needs and priorities of local population, guaranteeing the improvement of the quality of life according to a rational and sustainable use of natural resources (including water, atmosphere, soil, underground, flora and fauna). The Law is divided as follows: Environmental protection principles (Chap. I); Provisions to control dangerous polluting agents (Chap. II); Offences and penalties (Chap. III); Environmental Protection Fund (Chap. IV); Final provisions (Chap. V).
