Abstract The aim of this Law is to regulate the expropriation of lands for public utilities and purposes. It is composed of 36 articles. Article decrees that the expropriation of lands shall be carried out only for public utilities and purposes in exchange for a just and right compensation. Articles 2 to 6 deal with the management of the expropriation by the establishment of the Expropriation Committee and the Valuation Committee at an autonomous and independent department. Articles 7 to 19 provide for procedures and measures for the expropriation. Articles 20 to 24 pertain to the expropriation operations in quarters, districts, zones and territories.
