Abstract

This amendment to the 2002 Law involves three main changes: (i) redefining the investment entity as the General Electricity Transmission Corporation, the General Electricity Distribution Corporation, or the General Governorate Electricity Company; (ii) increasing penalties for energy theft; and (iii) allowing the investment entity to request the suspension of judicial prosecution for the organizer of an illegal seizure of electrical energy within two months of reporting, provided they promptly pay the value of the rented energy. Furthermore, the entity is obligated to resolve cases of illegal electricity renting within six months, contingent on individuals paying the value of unlawfully rented energy, compensation, and submitting a settlement request within the specified timeframe.
