Abstract This Law, consisting of 12 Chapters, divided into 44 articles, establishes veterinary safety norms, animal health and environmental safety for animal origin products. It does not apply for fisheries sector and aims at guaranteeing a high level of animal veterinary control and public health, defining protection, control, circulation, transport and trade regimes for animals and animal products. It also regulates protecting measures to fight against animal contagious diseases, establishing veterinary drugs, inspections, offences and penalties for illegal activities.
