Abstract This Law consisting of 13 articles aims at establishing the Authority for Environmental Protection and Improvement. Main tasks of the Authority are: protecting and improving the environment, by a prevention of pollution to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the region; protecting public health from the dangers of harmful activities; removing and treating the effects of chemical weapons, cleaning up mine fields and waste of weapons and munitions that cause environmental pollution; and raising the level of environmental awareness to activate the role of civil society organizations in this area. It will achieve the objectives through: proposing the general policy to protect the environment; developing annual, medium and long term plans to protect and improve the environment; conducting tests relating to environmental pollutants and factors affecting the safety of the environment. The Resolution deals also with the Board of Directors and the Committees to Protect and Improve the Environment that shall be constituted in every province of the Kurdistan region, their formation, responsibilities and rules.
