Abstract

This Law strengthens epidemiological surveillance measures of the bovine spongiform encephalopathy. A general prevention program against the said disease consists of rapid diagnosis tests of all slaughtered bovine, bison bison and bubalus bubalus aged over thirty months. An updated list of risk material coming from ovine and caprine animals will be provided. Particular attention is made to vertebral column and spleen of bovine aged over twelve months. Moreover, fats obtained from specified organs at risk, used in different products (except for food for human consumption) may contain added colouring substances in order to prevent them from being used in feedstuffs or foodstuffs.
