Abstract This law provides for the promotion of maritime safety, security and protection of the maritime environment. Among other provisions, article 11 provides for amendments to Law No. 314/1976. A new article (9) is added to the law, providing for obligatory insurance of ships regarding civil liability for oil pollution damage caused by them or other floating constructions. With article 11 to the present law, paragraph 1 of article 5 to Law No. 314/1976 is replaced and paragraph 2 is abrogated.
