Abstract The Law aims at the liberalization of the electricity energy market through the competition in supply and efficient generation by means of coordinated production. It consists of 47 articles, arranged under the following chapters: chapter A, General Provisions. The production, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity in Greece shall be conducted in accordance with the rules of this law. The relevant services and activities are of common benefit. The “Activity of Electric Power”, intended as every corporate activity regarding the generation, transmission, distribution or supply of electricity power, is under the supervision of the State and shall be exercised by the Minister of Development under the framework of long-term energy planning. The long-term energy planning is established on a five and ten year basis and published by Decision of the Minister of Development. Chapter B establishes the Greek Electricity Regulator (RAE) and provides for all matters connected therewith. RAE’s mandate is to monitor and control the operation of the energy market in all sectors and also to suggest to the competent bodies necessary measures for compliance with the antitrust and consumer protection rules and regulations. Chapter C, Production of Electricity, and Chapter G, Regulation of Licenses, deal with licenses for energy production. Chapters D and E deal with electricity transmission and distribution. The ownership of the electricity transmission and distribution net belongs exclusively to the Public Power Corporation (ΔΕΗ). Chapter F deals with the supply of electricity to customers. Chapter J provides for the production of electric power by autoproducers using renewable energy sources. Autoproducers are intended as generating plants of electric power covering essentially their own needs. Full text Greek
