Abstract

This law ratifies the international tropical timber Agreement which was signed in Geneva on 26 January 1994 (article 1 of the present law). The Agreement aims at ensuring that by the year 2000 exports of tropical timber will originate from sustainably managed sources and to establish a fund to assist tropical timber producers in obtaining the resources necessary to reach this objective. It also defines the mandate of the International Tropical Timber Organization. The law, consisting of two articles (ratification and entry into force), adopts all its provisions and Annexes connected therewith.
