Abstract This Law is composed of 10 Chapters divided into 53 articles. Chapter I gives terms and definitions. Chapter II defines objectives of this Law, which are: to guarantee the practicing of economic activities for all; to guarantee to the consumer fundamental rights such as medicines, water, house, sanitary care, food, education, culture, training, services and the like; to guarantee consumer’s health and safety during the use of services or products; to be informed about correct instructions and use of products; to be represented by consumer cooperatives; and, to guarantee a salutary and secure ambient to consumers. Chapter III defines consumer’s rights. Chapter IV pertains to safety, security and compatibility of products. Chapters V to VII deal with the following matters: honesty of commerce dealing; consumer protection associations; and, the role of the State in consumer protection. Chapters VIII to X contain the following: advertising and the consumer; offences and penalties; and, general provisions.
