This Law enters into force sixty days after its publication.
Abstract

This Law, consisting of 26 articles and one Annex, provides for the management policy and the sustainable use of native wild passerine species bred for commercial and non-commercial purposes. Its objectives aim to: sustainably use of birds of the Brazilian fauna; regulate the activities of management and sustainable use of birds of the Brazilian fauna; protect, preserve and ex-situ conservation of wild birds; responsible use of birds of Brazilian fauna, which have relevant environmental, social and cultural importance, meeting the fundamental guidelines of sustainability, environmental balance and animal welfare; repopulate species created in a domestic environment, which will be implemented through programmes created and/or maintained by the Environmental Institute of Paraná (IAP), and may sign technical cooperation agreements with state universities, Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine (CRMV-PR), Regional Council of Biology of the 7th Region-Paraná (CRBio-07) and Federation of Bird Breeders of the State of Paraná (Fecripar); protect the genetic patrimony of the native passerine species bred in domestic environment; protect the traditional knowledge associated with the traditional community of bird breeders; recognize the strategic importance of the native passerine breeders as protectors and multipliers of the genetic patrimony of passerine species of the Brazilian State; promote educational and informative actions, etc. The Annex lists down the wild species allowed to be bred and traded.
