Abstract

This Law authorizes the creation, in all fishing centres, of social cooperative organizations, with legal personality, called Fisherman's Houses «Casas dos Pescadores». The purposes of the Fisherman's Houses are as follows: a) Professional representation; b) Education and instruction in the art of fishing; e) Pension and social protection. The sphere of action of these institutions will be limited to the area of the respective captaincy or maritime delegation, and the existence of any other organization of the same nature and with identical purposes is not permitted. However, there may be sections of Casas dos Pescadores in fishing centres or locations where the creation of autonomous institutions is not justified.
