This Law enters into force 12 months after the date of its official publication.
Abstract

This Law establishes the legal basis for the quality of potable water, as well as measures by the responsible authorities to ensure compliance with the quality of potable water. The objective of this Law is to ensure long-term compliance of potable water quality by establishing a flexible and transparent legal framework and supporting proper risk management. The task of this Law is to protect human health from the negative effects of pollution of potable water by ensuring its safety and purity. The provisions of this law do not apply to the following types of waters: (a) natural mineral waters recognized as such by the competent authorities in accordance with the law; (b) waters with curative properties, in accordance with the provisions established by law and the regulatory documents on medicinal mineral waters approved by the Government; (c) drinking water from water producers supplying on average less than 10 cubic metres per day or serving less than 50 persons, except where the production of water is part of a commercial or government activity. This Law contains VI Chapters divided into 16 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II establishes potable water quality requirements. Chapter III regards supervision and monitoring. Chapter IV regards information and reporting. Chapter V regards ensuring potable water quality. Chapter VI lays down final and transitional provisions.
