This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
Abstract

This Law, consisting of 84 articles divided into ten Chapters, establishes the Policy on Animal Health Protection within the State of Ceará. The Law also creates the State Council for Animal Protection and Welfare with the objective of carrying out the integrated articulation between federal, state and municipal agencies in the use of animals and the protective entities of civil society to act in administrative technical cooperation between the parties, aiming at the protection and welfare of animals. The objectives of the State Law are: establish animal welfare policies aimed at promoting sustainable development and raising awareness among the various social actors regarding the need to protect and respect the rights of animals; provide assistance to animals and those responsible for them; provide assistance to wild animals and rehabilitation for their release into the wild; develop environmental education actions on fauna with society, seeking to sensitize it on the responsibility of keeping animals, the need for conservation and respect for urban and wild fauna; promote actions for the responsible adoption of abandoned animals; design and develop projects or programmes, in partnership with teaching, research and animal protection institutions, to seek alternatives and implement actions to control the population of domestic animals; elaborate and develop projects or programmes, in partnership with research and animal protection institutions and environmental public institutions for the implementation of actions for the population control of exotic wild fauna in Ceará territory and in the jurisdictional waters.
