Abstract This Law is aimed at implementing the constitutional guarantees of the right of citizens to social protection - ensuring a standard of living not lower than the subsistence level by providing financial assistance to the least socially protected families and promoting their economic independence. Low-income families permanently residing on the territory of Ukraine shall be granted the right to state social assistance. State social assistance shall be awarded and paid by social protection bodies at the place of residence. The amount of state social assistance is defined as the difference between subsistence minimum for the family and its average monthly total income. The maximum amount of state social assistance may not exceed subsistence level for the family. State social assistance is granted for six months. The amount of the assigned state social assistance is recalculated upon application submitted by authorized representative of the family. In the case of approval of a new level of subsistence level the assigned assistance is transferred without the request of the authorized representative of the family.
