Abstract This Law amends Law No. 14.675 establishing the Environmental Code within the State of Santa Catarina. Amendments deal with the addition of §§ 1 and 2 to article 29 of the above mentioned Law concerning the open-pit excavation activities, crushing plants and related activities, exclusively for the construction, maintenance and improvement of municipal, state or internal roads of rural properties, with no commercial purpose, are exempted from environmental licensing, only if they are inserted in a rural area. The activities of open cast mining by excavation, crushing plants and related activities inserted in the urban area, of urban expansion or for the purpose of commercialization, through Environmental Authorization (AuA).
