Abstract This Law, consisting of 12 articles creates the State Policy for Agroecology and Organic Production (PEAPO). The Policy aims at promoting and encouraging the development of agroecology and organic production in the State. PEAPO will be implemented by the State in cooperation with the Union, Municipalities, civil society organizations and other private entities. For the implementation of PEAPO, management, partnerships, participation, financing, control and social networks will be created and strengthened. PEAPO guidelines are: promotion of food and nutritional sovereignty and security and human right to adequate and healthy food; conservation of natural ecosystems, restoration of degraded or modified ecosystems with the adoption of agroecological methods and practices and promotion of sustainable agroecosystems; implementation of policies benefiting agroecological transition and organic production; production, distribution, commercialization and consumption circuits for agroecological and organic products that improve the economic, social and environmental functions of agriculture, animal production, agroforestry and forestry logging, respecting cultural traditions, having as premises the practices of fair and solidary commerce; valorisation of agrobiodiversity and socio-biodiversity products, and diversification of agricultural, territorial, rural, cultural and social landscape and local experiences of use and conservation of plant and animal genetic resources, especially those involving the management of native species, local and traditional breeds and varieties; strengthening of women farmers in the management and conservation of natural assets with a view to maintaining socio-biodiversity; etc. Full text Portuguese Website www.legislacao.sp.gov.br
