Abstract This Law, consisting of 204 articles divided into four Titles and one Annex, creates the State Code of Consumer Protection of Pernambuco. This Law gathers the consumer legislation and establishes, in terms of the Federal Constitution and art. 143 of the Constitution of the State of Pernambuco, standards and consumer protection, public order and social interest, constituting the State Code of Consumer Protection. The provisions of this Code apply to consumer relations in which the supply of the product or the provision of the service occur within the State of Pernambuco, including e-shops. Consumers have the right to adequate and clear information in Portuguese, on the different products and services, with a correct specification of quantity, characteristics, composition, quality, incidental taxes and price, as well as the risks they present (specific indication must be shown with special emphasis for calories and high sodium contained in foodstuff). The supplier who places a product or service on the market that presents a high degree of health or safety hazards is obliged to inform immediately. The Law considers essential product, for the purposes of art. 18 of the Consumer Protection Code (Federal Law No. 8.078 of 11 September 1990), those that, due to their nature and characteristics, are essential to the life, such as: I - food in general; II - medicines; and III - equipment for treatment of health.
