Abstract This Law establishes criteria for the reuse of non-potable water within the State of Ceará, based on art. 326 of the State Constitution and Law No. 14.844 of 28 December 2010. Reusing non-potable water will meet the following guidelines: protection and promotion of public health; maintaining the integrity of ecosystems; protection and preservation of existing water resources; sustainable water use. The reuse of non-potable water covers the following aspects: water reuse for general urban irrigation, washing of public places and vehicles, civil construction and fire fighting; water reuse for irrigation in agricultural production and of planted forests cultivation, refilling the groundwater; water reuse for implementation of environmental recovery projects; water reuse in activities and industrial operations; water reuse in aquaculture for rearing animals or growing aquatic vegetables. The modalities of reuse are not mutually exclusive and may be used simultaneously. The reuse of non-potable water for human supply is prohibited.
