Abstract This Law, consisting of 25 articles, creates the Quality Programme for Production, Transportation and Trade of Milk within the State of Rio Grande do Sul. This Programme establishes sectoral measures, with the aim of preventing fraud and adulteration in milk, preserving public health and expanding domestic and foreign markets with social and economic benefits for all members of the dairy production chain, extending its effects to all establishments and official inspection services in the State. All bovines aged over six weeks aimed to produce milk must comply with the official programmes for control and eradication of tuberculosis and brucellosis, as hygiene and sanitary standards.
