This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
Abstract

This Law provides for the mandatory controlled disposal of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and their residues and the decontamination and disposal of transformers, capacitors and other equipment considered as contaminated by PCBs and complements the provisions contained in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, enacted by Decree No. 5.472 of 20 June 2005. In particular, it establishes that public or private legal entities that use or have under their custody the above mentioned materials, as well as others such as: oils or other substances contaminated by PCBs, are obliged to remove them by promoting environmentally appropriate final disposal, in accordance with the Convention.
