Abstract

This Law establishes Code of Investments. The purpose of this Code is to establish the general bases for accelerating and facilitating investments in Cape Verde, as well as the rights, guarantees and incentives to be granted to investments likely to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. This Code applies to all investments of economic nature that take place in Cape Verde or abroad from Cape Verde, made by national or foreign investors and who wish to benefit from the guarantees and incentives provided for therein. Investments are subject to the provisions of this Code, Regulations and other legislation in force, as well as the principles and objectives of the national economic and environmental policy. Investments made under this Code must contribute to the pursuit, namely, of the following objectives: promoting the socio-economic and cultural well-being of populations; reducing regional socioeconomic gaps; ensuring environmental balance; strengthening the national business fabric and productive capacity; creating direct, indirect and induced jobs; improving the quality of the Cape Verdean workforce; fostering technological innovation and transfer; increasin and diversifying exports; improving balance of payment accounts; increasing and diversifying exports; supplying the domestic market; improving the country's economic infrastructure, etc.
