Abstract

This Law creates the National Policy for Livestock, Agro-forestry and Sylvo-pastoralism (ILPF). This Programme aims at: improving in a sustainable way productivity, quality products and agro-forestry income generating activities, through the application of exploitation integrated systems, livestock and forestry activities in deforested areas, as alternative to traditional monoculture; at mitigating the deforestation caused by the conversion of native forest areas into pasture or agricultural areas, contributing to the maintenance of permanent preservation areas and of legal reserves, at stimulating activities of research, development and technological innovation, that integrate with each other, ecologically and economically livestock, agriculture and forestry; at promoting the environmental education at all levels of education; at promoting the rehabilitation of degraded areas of pasture, through sustainable productive systems, in particular, the ILPF; To support the adoption of practices and conservation agricultural systems that promote the improvement and maintenance of organic soil matter, and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases; at promoting the diversification of production systems through the insertion of forestry resources, stimulate alternative to the use of fire in agriculture; aiming at the commercial exploitation of timber and non timber products, as well as other forms of systems in order to protect, manage and exploit forestry and sylvo-pastoralism resources; and to stimulate and disseminate agroforestry systems allied to conservation practices and animal welfare. The ILPF to the provisions of this law, is understood as the sustainable production strategy that integrates agricultural, livestock and forestry held in the same area in intercropping, in succession or rotated, seeking synergistic effects between agroecosystem components, aiming to the recovery of degraded areas, economic viability and environmental sustainability.
