Abstract This Law, consisting of 30 articles divided into five Chapters, regulates the organization and functioning of cooperatives and creates the National Programme for Cooperatives (PRONACOOP). It defines terms and conditions for creating cooperatives and specifies the requirements to be satisfied in order to perform any work activity in a form of workers' organization and with a common profit. PRONACOOP is a Programme created in the framework of the Ministry of Work and Employment, aiming at promoting the development and the improvement of socio-economic sector. The Law is divided as follows: Labour Cooperatives (Chap. II); Functioning of Labour Cooperatives (Chap. III); Control and Penalties (Chap.
