Abstract This Law, consisting of 7 articles, creates the State Water Conservation Programme in the state of Minas Gerais. This Programme aims at protecting and preserving the natural resources of hydrographic basins subject to exploitation for the purpose of public supply or generation of electric energy. In order to achieve the objectives set forth in this Law, concessionaires of public water and electric power generation services, public and private, are obliged to invest in the related protection and environmental preservation of the hydrographic basin in which the exploration takes place. Equivalent to at least 0.5% (half percent) of the total value of the operating revenue therein in the year prior to the investment.
