Abstract

This Law, consisting of 25 articles divided into six Chapters, establishes the State Policy on Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming (PEATER) and State Programme of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for Family Farming (PROATER). PEATER formulation and supervision are under the responsibility of the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Irrigation and Agrarian Reform (SEAGRI), through the Family Farming Superintendency (SUAF). PEATER objectives aim to: promote sustainable rural development; support economic initiatives that promote territorial potentials and vocations; increase quality and productivity of agricultural and non-agricultural activities and services, including forestry and artisanal services; promote the improvement of the quality of life; advise the various phases of economic activities; develop actions aimed at the use, management, protection, conservation and recovery of natural resources, agroecosystems and biodiversity; build sustainable production systems based on scientific, empirical and traditional knowledge; increase beneficiary income and add value to their production; support societies and cooperatives, as well as the training of technical assistance and rural extension agents; promote the development of technological and organizational innovations for target public and its integration into the national productive market; contribute to the expansion of learning, education and professional qualification, in a diversified, appropriate and contextualized way to the reality of the Brazilian rural environment, etc.
