Abstract The present Law consists of 5 Chapters composed of 12 articles, dealing with: (a) general provisions (Chapt. 1, arts. 1-4); (b) structure and organization of the State Geological Service (Chapt. 2, arts. 5-7); (c) financing of geological activity (Chapt. 3, arts. 8-10); (d) main functions of the State Geological Service (Chapt. 4, arts. 11 and 12); (e) final provisions (Chapt. 5). The present Law establishes a legal, organizational and financial basis for the functioning of the State Geological Service being the central executive body for geological study and management of subsoil. The main tasks of the Service shall be: (1) geological, hydrological and ecological study and mapping of sites, including dangerous geological phenomena; (2) geological monitoring; (3) creation of the common information system regarding subsoil management; (4) protection and rational management of subsoil for mining and extraction of minerals; (5) promotion of entrepreneurial activity, in particular subsoil management (art. 4).
