Abstract This Law, consisting of 7 Chapters, approves the Basic Legislation on Environment. It defines the basic concepts and specifies the norms, and the basic principles related to policies and activities of protection, preservation and conservation of the environment of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. It also promote the improvement of the quality of life through a correct management of the National environment and a rational use of natural resources, in order to optimize and to guarantee the sustainability and continuity of the use of such resources. In addition, it creates the Environmental Fund. The Law is divided as follows: General provisions (Chap. I); Definition of natural components of environment (Chap. II); Instruments of Policy and Environmental management (Chap. III); Organs of environmental management (Chap. IV); Rights and duties of people (Chap. V); Sanctions (Chap. VI); Final provisions (Chap. VII).
