Abstract This Law, structured in three main sections and composed of 20 articles, provides a detailed definition of the areas to be considered of special interest for the State. It sets the legal framework for the immovable properties with more than 1.000.000 m2 and those located in municipal bordering areas. It defines the possible procedures for land parcelling and identifies the competent authorities for the previous exam and approval, namely the Secretary of State for the Development of the Metropolitan Region (SECDREM), responsible for Rio de Janeiro area, and the Secretary of State for Planning and Control (SECPLAN). It modifies and integrates the articles 2, 5, 8 and repeals the articles 4 and 10 of the Law no 921 of 11 November 1985.
