Abstract

This Law creates the State Policy for Promoting the Cultivation, Extraction, Commercialization, Consumption and Transformation of Bocaiuva and other Palm Oil Plants (Pró-Bocaiuva). It aims at integrating the communities that traditionally exploit them, by promoting the use and rational management of these species, and transform the activity into an alternative for family farming and agribusiness, observing the requirements for the environmental sustainability. The Policy has the following guidelines: identify areas where there are communities that traditionally live from the culture of these oil palm trees; create mechanisms to encourage the preservation of areas where palm species are used; create mechanisms for these communities, organized in cooperatives, to use the existing reserve areas on their properties to collect the fruits of these oil palm trees; develop actions and research aimed at the production of seedlings, planting, harvesting, processing and marketing the fruits of bocaiuva and other oil palm trees, as well as their products, by-products and derivatives; inform on nutrition and medicinal components of bocaiuva and other oil palm trees; encourage the marketing and industrialization of these oil palm trees, aiming at their use for various purposes; create a certification model that identifies the production area and attests to the quality of products, by-products or derivatives of bocaiuva and other oil palm trees; encourage technical improvement, economic development and organization in cooperatives and other associative forms of producers and workers involved in the exploitation of bocaiuva and other oil palm trees, etc.
